HYROX

CrossFit NorthGate’s HYROX Training Philosophy

At CrossFit NorthGate, we believe HYROX is about far more than crossing a finish line. It's an opportunity to become stronger, healthier, more capable, and to discover what you're truly capable of.

Whether you're preparing for your very first race or chasing a personal best, we will help you train intelligently, enjoy the process, and arrive on race day feeling confident.

Our approach is built on progression.

It's easy to assume the best way to prepare for HYROX is to do more HYROX. We disagree. Before race-specific training becomes the priority, we focus on developing the qualities every great hybrid athlete depends on: strength, efficient movement, aerobic capacity, durability, and resilience. These are the attributes that take the longest to build, but they also create the greatest long-term potential while helping athletes stay injury free.

As race day approaches, your training gradually becomes more specific and will look more like a Hyrox event, allowing you to peak when it matters most.

The result is more than a faster race.

It's the confidence that comes from knowing you've prepared the right way. It's lining up at the start knowing your body is ready for the challenge ahead. And it's having the freedom to enjoy the atmosphere, embrace the experience, and celebrate everything you've accomplished along the way.

We also believe the best training happens when you can’t wait for your next workout. Great coaching, thoughtful programming, and a supportive community will make your training the highlight of your day. When you love what you do your greatest potential is unlocked.

Our goal is to build the athlete first. Great HYROX performances are simply the result. The greatest reward isn't race day—it's who the process helps us become.

How We Prepare Athletes for HYROX

Our goal is simple: build the athlete first, then prepare for the race.

Every athlete begins from a different place, but our methodology remains the same.

The Foundation

CrossFit remains the backbone of our program because it develops the broad physical capacity that every successful HYROX athlete needs: strength, work capacity, movement quality, and resilience.

Rather than replacing CrossFit, we make targeted adjustments based on each athlete's goals, strengths, weaknesses, and race calendar.

We Prioritize High-ROI Training

As athletes prepare for HYROX, we progressively increase the training that has the greatest transfer to race performance.

This includes:

Running development

Lower-body strength

Sled pushing and pulling

Walking lunges

Farmer carries

Row and SkiErg conditioning

Race pacing and transitions

At the same time, we reduce training that has less direct carryover to HYROX performance, allowing athletes to recover better and focus their energy where it matters most.

We Coach Individuals

No two athletes receive the exact same emphasis. A runner may need more strength. A CrossFit athlete may need more running. Another athlete may simply need months of consistent aerobic development.

Our job isn't to fit athletes into a program. Our job is to adapt the program to the athlete.

We Train in Phases

The farther away race day is, the more time we spend building strength, mechanics, aerobic capacity, and durability. As race day approaches, training gradually shifts toward the specific demands of HYROX through increased running, race simulations, pacing practice, and event-specific conditioning.

By race day, athletes aren't hoping they're prepared.

They know they are.
